Acceptable Use Policy
Draft document, pending legal review
This Policy is a draft provided for transparency. It has not been reviewed by a qualified lawyer and is not legal advice. Last updated: October 4, 2026.
The core rule
Use Compress Images only on images you own or are explicitly authorized by the owner to work on. Anything else is prohibited, and on someone else's picture it may be a crime.
What the rule means in practice
Work on your own images, and on images you have the owner’s permission to work on. Do not use the tool to open a file you are not authorized to open, to remove protection you are not allowed to remove, or to get at a picture that is not yours to copy.
The tool runs on your own device, so there is no account, no upload and no history for anyone to look through. That is a property of how it works, not a permission: it does not make working on someone else’s picture acceptable, and it does not hide what you do with the result.
What the tool cannot do
Compress Images will not open a file it cannot decode, and it will not open an encrypted file at all: there is no password field, and no part of your file is sent anywhere to be unlocked. It does not read HEIC, it does not read or write JPEG XL, and it does not open PDFs or documents. If you need one of those, this is the wrong tool and it will tell you so rather than pretend.
Reporting
If you think this policy has been broken, or you want to report a problem with the tool itself, write to support@compress-images.online.
